REPORT: Ipswich 1 - 1 Sheffield Weds
James, 10/1/09

Town drew level and came from a goal down in the second half to rescue a point against Sheffield Wednesday today at Portman road.

Town made three changes from the team that beat Chesterfield last week, David Wright was injured, Veliche Shumulikoski was suspended and Alan Quinn rested, in came Alex Bruce who played at centre back pushing Ivan Campo back into midfield, Danny Haynes and Kevin Lisbie.

Wednesday's Steve Watson created the first chance of the game in the 9th minute, firing just wide from 10-yards following a cross from Francis Jeffers.

Jon Walters created Town's first chance after 14 minutes, like Watson he could only fire wide from inside the box. Gareth McAuley had most of the goal to aim at when he was left unmarked at a corner but he headed wide as Lee Grant scrambled to get back across his goal in time.

Danny Haynes used his pace to round two Wednesday defenders before his one man attack was brought to an end on the edge of the six yard box by Grant.

Steve Watson was unlucky not to have given Wednesday the lead after 36 minutes after some slick passing by the visitors left Town's defence everywhere apart from where it should have been, but Watson fired just over from inside the area.

The best chance of the first half came in stoppage time when Jon Walters had his 18-yard effort cleared off the line by Richard Wood.

Wednesday took the lead just 6 minutes into the second half, Watson heading into the back of the net from Jermaine Johnson's cross. Johnson was soon involved in the action again, being caught offside from Michael Gray's pass before Town levelled the scores.

Danny Haynes forced Lee Grant to push his effort just wide resulting in a corner, which gave Town a chance to make a change with Stead coming on for Lisbie. Miller took the corner which Gareth McAuley headed goal wards only for Grant to parry to shot into the path of Pablo Counago who headed home.

Both sides had chances to win the game in the final 25 minutes, Stead fired over twice for Town, Garvan, who had come on to replace Miller, couldn't keep his shot from the edge of the area on target as Grant ran back into position after scuffing his clearance. Jeffers going close for The Owls.
